In this book you will find the pioneers of travelogues. These are the artists, travelers, explorers who document, write about their experiences and draw what they see at new places. The most famous person in the book is probably Charles Darwin. There are a total of 70 individuals with over 400 illustrations featured.

Most of the explorers are from the 1700s to 1900s. A small handful are from 2000s. The artworks are drawn with all sorts of media. The earlier ones were mostly drawn and painting with pencils and paints, probably watercolour. And the more recent ones with inks and other paints. There are lots of different styles to check out. There were drawings in black and white, coloured, collages with photos, maps and entries with lots of text.

Each explorer has a brief profile included together with some artworks from their sketchbooks. I'm quite surprised at how well some of the artworks were able to be reproduced.

Overall, it's a very well produced book.
