Photos from Malacca sketch trip 2014

Here are the photos from my recent trip to Malacca on 12-15 Dec 2014.

This was my small hotel room at Explorer Hotel. It's probably a 10-15 minutes walk to the busy touristy area of Malacca. The free wifi was a hit and miss during those days I was there.

Cooling chendol with coconut sugar. It's especially nice because it was really hot the few days in Malacca, slightly hotter than Singapore. I heard from the cafe owner who said that it hasn't rained for days. Strange though, Tia said it was rainy for the few days she was there, and I was expecting it to be rainy because it should currently be the monsoon season.

That's the queue to the famous chicken rice ball stall located at the junction of Jonker Street. I really can't understand why people would want to queue under the hot sun for food. I'm not a foodie so I can eat anywhere, preferable at places where there are no queues.

I noticed a lot of Singaporeans there. You can sort of identify them from their clothing - they like to wear bermudas and shorts - and they like to walk and look at their phone at the same time. -_-

Malacca still has plenty of such shophouses around. They are nice and reminds me of the earlier Singapore.

"Bring lots of red paint to Malacca," my friend told me. It was good advice. In fact, you should bring various shades of red.

Another long queue for Satay Celup. It's basically steamboat except you cook with Satay gravy.

We had A&W before leaving for Singapore.

The bus ride from Singapore to Malacca was around 3 hours. On the first day, there was a huge jam and we had to spend up to 2 hours waiting at the Tuas checkpoint. I was surprised by the large number of coaches were heading to Malaysia on a Friday morning. Going through the Woodlands checkpoint would have taken under half and hour. No wonder I don't see coaches crossing to Malaysia from Woodlands checkpoint.

I probably spent less than SGD $400 in total for the 4D3N tour guided by my friend. Hotel and transport was $286. The rest was spent on food. That's pretty affordable.
