Book Review: Salvaged: The Art of Jason Felix

Salvaged: The Art of Jason Felix

Salvaged is an unexpected art book for me because I favour more hand drawn art. Inside, it features more manipulated art. Jason Felix have created the collages by mixing photos and graphic elements.

From what I read in the afterwood, the idea of Salvaged was to meld art and design just like Dave McKean did on his seminal Dust Covers. Here, we have a more industrial look to it. The human components are artistically and almost surgically blended with industrial elements. The result is some form of abstract hyperrealism and surrealism.

His love for using textures is evident. There are peeling paint, broad brush strokes, and texture maps created using typography. The concepts are dark but images visually captivating, giving a very good feeling of a disparate world.

I'm not a big fan of abstract art but this book offers a refreshing look at a different art form.
