Emerald Hill sketch

It has been such a long time since I sketched outdoors.

Yesterday I had joined my friends to sketch at Emerald Hill, a neighbourhood and a conservation area located in the planning areas of Newton and Orchard in Singapore. This place used to be (maybe still is) home to wealthy Peranakan community and features Chinese Baroque architecture.

I actually made the mistake of calling these houses shophouses but they are not. There are no shops beneath these houses.


This sketch probably took me 1 to 1.5 hours to draw and paint. It was a hot day so the watercolour was able to dry fast and allowed me to work fast.
