The XGody T01 is compact 1080P projector running on Android 9 and comes with a budget friendly price of SGD 109 (at the time of review on Shopee SG.

I accepted the invitation to review this Xgody projector because I wanted to see how good this projector is as it's so affordable.

Bottom line:
The projector works fine but you have to manage your expectations with the audio and visual quality given the budget price point. You get what you pay for applies with this projector. 1080P projector is good but the areas near the edges are slightly blur. Audio is loud but sounds slightly hollow. Daytime screening looks alright if you have effective blackout curtains. Night time screening is way more enjoyable. The navigation and Android 9 work well and does not lag.

Design

This is a compact projector that measures 6.7cm height x 16.7cm x 12.5cm. I have it on my table and it doesn't take up much space.

The design is clean and simple. Build quality feels alright given the plastic construction.

There are 4 rubber feet on the bottom and a tripod mount.

Interestingly, the projection is lower than I expected when the projector is on my table. It may be better to have the projector on a tripod so that the projection is higher. It is possible to tilt the projector to move the projection higher but that will affect the sharpness near the edges which isn't already ideal to start with.

The lamp is a 60W LED with brightness up to 6000 lumens. The brightness is good enough for daytime screening if you have effective blackout curtains. Visual quality and contrast are much better when screening at night.

The ring nearest the lens is for manual focus. The other ring is for keystone adjustments (+- 15 degrees) to make sure vertical edges of the projection are vertical.

On the right side are the fan exhaust, full-size HDMI and USB-A.

Fan noise is quite loud but is comparable to other projectors I've tested. Audio from the speaker is loud enough over the fan noise.

The USB-A port can be used to stream movies. The internal storage of the projector is just 8GB but that's not a problem because of the USB-A port where you can get more external storage.

On the back is a 3.5mm port for AV and 3.5mm port for audio.

There's mention of Micro SD card support but I don't see any slot for that.

On the top are power and control buttons for navigating the user interface. The buttons work well and have firm feedback.

Navigation the UI is more convenient with the included controller through. The controller uses 2 AAA batteries which are not included.

This is the Android TV 9 user interface. It is possible to install apps as there's Google Play Store, but note the internal storage capacity is just 8GB.

Navigation through the UI is straightforward and more importantly smooth and lag-free.

It is possible to pair Bluetooth devices to the projector. I've successfully paired my wireless earphones and mouse but for some reason keyboard pairing does not work as the pairing code does not appear -- and I've tried two different keyboards.

When watching movies with Bluetooth earphones, I'm pleasantly surprised there's no audio lag. But it's usually better to pair the earphones to the device that's streaming the movie, e.g. your computer or tablet.

Projection quality

The main thing that affects image quality is areas near the edges are not that sharp. The centre of the projection is sharp.

I don't consider the slight blur near the edges to be a dealbreaker considering the price of the projector.

I actually consider the image quality to be good for a projector that's just SG $109. I didn't feel like my viewing experience is affected very negatively but of course a sharper image will be appreciated more.

6000 lumens for daytime screening is sufficient with effective blackout curtains. Without effective blackout curtains, the ambient light will affect contrast.

This was screened during daytime. The movie is Shazam.

On my laptop, I can actually see the shadow details beneath the left monster's chin and the back of the bald guy. With the projection during daytime, I can barely make out the chest of the monster. Colours are also less vibrant, look washed out and lack contrast during daytime projection.

Night time screening

Image quality is visibly better when screening at night due to better contrast and more vibrant colours. Movie watching experience is more enjoyable.

UI also look better at night of course.

Conclusion

This is my first time reviewing a projector this affordable and the quality is within my expectations since I wasn't really expecting much.

The projector works fine. Quality for the audio and image is good enough. Navigating the UI is fast and smooth. If you need better quality, be prepared to spend more.
