Creative Illustration: Play with Unexpected Materials by Adolfo Serra (online art course)

I've become a fan of Adolfo Serra's art after I discovered his work. Creative Illustration: Play with Unexpected Materials is Adolfo's third art course on Domestika. I've also featured his two other courses months ago, namely Illustration Techniques to Unlock Your Creativity and Introduction to Children's Illustration.

This course is in Spanish and there's no English translated audio at the time of this review. The course is 2hr 24min long so there's a lot of subtitles to read. If you can get past the subtitles, you'll be rewarded with really fun art and creativity exercises.

This course is a mixed media art course on experimenting with unconventional materials to make art. Some of the supplies you need this time are coffee, tea, wine, soap, squid ink, cuttlefish, salt, food spices and food colouring. You get to mix and match the supplies and tools to create different effects.

Some exercises even require you to make your own painting or drawing tool. You get to create your own brushes from twigs. twine, leaves, feather, sponge, tape and metal coil. You'll also make stamping tools, from fruits, vegetables and other plants.

The exercise on creating marbled design paper is really interesting. That exercise involves using shaving cream.

The last exercise is on creating a fanzine or your personal artbook. And you'll get to see Adolfo's beautiful artbook too.

This is an entertaining and inspiring course that's also a lot of fun. This course will help you be more creative and open your mind to possibilities of creating unconventional art.
