Review: Pitaka MagEZ Slider (2nd gen) - iPhone charger with power bank

Review unit provided by Pitaka

The Pitaka MagEZ Slider (2nd gen) is an iPhone stand and charger that comes with a portable power bank. This was released in April 2023 and is the updated model of the original MagEZ Slider that I review a few months ago. This product can also be used with the Samsung S22/S23 fitted with the Pitaka MagEZ Case 2/3..

The price is USD 129 which is considered pricy but it has many features that may justifies the high price tag. The main selling points for me you can have your iPhone deploy vertically and horizontally on the stand, the charging pad is actually a portable power bank and you can charge your Apple Watch too.

Here are the upgrades over the previous model:

Slider Slider 2
5W wireless charging power bank 7.5W wireless charging power bank
Spinning base cannot be locked Spinning base can be locked
Power bank has to be powered on before it can charge Power bank automatically powers on for charging when phone is detected
Battery status only shown on power bank Battery status shown on power bank and dock
Bigger gel pad makes it difficult to move the dock Smaller gel pad makes it easier to move the dock

The biggest upgrade for me is the spinning base can now be locked.

Items included in the box are:

  • Dock
  • 4000 mAh power bank
  • USB-C to USB-C cable
  • Magnetic holder for Apple AirPods Case
  • Quick start guide

The Pitaka MagEZ Slider 2 is an iPhone stand and charger with a removeable 4000 mAh power bank. This is a smart design because you can pull out the power bank from the dock and bring it with you.

To charge the power bank, you just slide it back into the dock. And to charge your phone, you just place it on the power bank.

The power bank actually comes with a USB-C port so it is possible to charge the power bank from other chargers too. Weight is 112g.

When the phone is on the power bank, you can rotate the phone horizontally. This is great for watching videos in landscape mode.

The power bank is thick but no thicker compared to other magnetic power banks I've seen. The design of the power bank is curved on the side for the palm so that you can hold the phone and power bank comfortably.

On this side of the dock there is a USB-C port for the Power Dongle for charging the Apple Watch. That Power Dongle is sold separately for USD 50. That is expensive.

There's little magnetic holder that you can attach to the back of the dock so that the Apple AirPods case can charge on it. Samsung Galaxy Buds R170 and Galaxy Buds Pro R190 are also compatible.

Charging speed for the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods case is 7.5W, 5W and 5W respectively. To charge multiple devices together, Pitaka recommends using a 20W or more powerful charger.

Charging speed will depend on the phone you have. Charging speed is around 2 - 4 minutes per % based on my experience.

On the other side, there's now a toggle switch for locking the spinning base. I find it easier to rotate the dock by just lifting it compared to unlocking, turning the base, then locking again.

Beneath the dock is a smaller sticky gel pad. If you choose to use the gel pad, you can pull the power bank and phone from the dock with one hand. If you choose not to use the gel pad, you'll have to use two hands to remove the power bank and phone from the dock. I like to keep things mobile on my table so I prefer not to use the sticky gel pad.

There are actually many competing products that can charge the iPhone, AirpPods and Apple Watch together. The selling point of the Pitaka MagEZ Slider 2 over other products is you also get a portable power bank, and you can attach your iPhone vertically or horizontally on the dock.

It's a well designed product that looks good and works well. You can decide if all these features are worth USD 129.
