The Art of Lightyear is a 176-page hardcover artbook packed with concept art for Pixar's 2022 film Lightyear.

The book features plenty of character designs. There are loose sketches, clay sculpts, coloured illustrations and high resolution 3D models. Buzz Lightyear looks really cool in this spin-off animated film of the Toy Story series. The book left out the original 3D model from the first Toy Story film though. It would be interested to see how the 3D model back then compares to the new one. Other characters are the friends and colleagues and of course Zurg.

It's quite fun to see Pixar's take on the sci-fi deep space genre through designs for the environment, space stations, spaceships. There are also more storyboards than I expected. There isn't much text though, just the occasional paragraphs talking about the designs.

The artworks in this book look lovely. It's a wonderful companion artbook for the movie.
