Book Review: Thirty Days on the Camino

Thirty Days on the Camino - 01

Here's the travelogue sketchbook of my sketcher friend in Singapore, Alvin Mark Tan.

He just came back recently after walking 800km on The Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage route that leads to he Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain.

Collected within this 100-page hardcover are the sketches and thoughts he made during the 30 days on the road. The wonderful stories gives us the peregino (Spanish for pilgrim) perspective, looks at the interesting people and travelers along the way, how the landscape changes and feels, and the experience of traveling on foot. The sketches are in the form of pen & ink, and watercolour. Beautiful, loose and fun.

The writing is sincere and it's inspiring to read his words. It makes you wonder about your own life. The first person perspective certainly adds authenticity and personality.

I would highly recommend this book to sketchbook lovers and travelers.

The book is currently sold in Singapore but can be shipped overseas. You can email Alvin to buy your copy. It's priced at SGD $29 (USD $25 or Euro $20) not including shipping — please contact him for shipping charges.
