Huion Back-to-School 2021 shopping guide

Huion Back-to-School sale is now on with discounts up to 30% for selected products. The sale also extends to certain products sold on Amazon. And there's 10% educational discount for students and teachers on top of the listed prices on Huion's web store.

The sale will end on 16 September 2021 and below are my recommendations on the drawing tablets and pen displays worth getting.

Note that this article is a sponsored article, but all the recommendations are based on the many reviews I've written on Huion products.

All the prices listed below are at time of this review. Actual prices may be lower due to promotion and also the Back-to-School sale. Do check out Amazon to compare prices too.

For those with a limited budget

If your budget is limited, then consider a pen tablet.

A pen tablet, in case you don't know, is a drawing tablet without a screen, and hence it's more affordable. You'll need to connect it to a computer to use it.

The Huion Inspiroy H1060P is a good performer priced at US $69.99. The drawing area of 10 x 6 inches is a good size to work with. There are 12 physical shortcut buttons, more than any other tablets they sell. This model is one of their best sellers on Amazon with over 3,000 positive reviews.

If you have a bit more budget, consider the much better looking Huion Inspiroy Dial Q620M (review | Amazon) priced at US $109.99. This has good drawing performance too and it's a wireless tablet so you'll have no cable clutter.

From $100 to $250

The Huion Kamvas 13 is priced at US $239 and the Huion Kamvas 12 is US $219.

These are pen displays so you get a screen where you can draw on. The drawing experience is more intuitive compared to pen tablets.

If you're going to be spending over $200, just go with the Kamvas 13 for the larger screen size. Kamvas 13 is actually 13.3-inches diagonal while Kamvas 12 is 11.6-inch. It's definitely worth the extra $20 to get the larger pen display for a more pleasant drawing experience. Also you don't have to squint your eyes that much.

From $250 to $400

In terms of value for money, I would recommend the Huion Kamvas 13 simply because it's noticeably more affordable compared to the Huion Kamvas 16 (review | Amazon) which is priced at US $399.

The Huion Kamvas 16 has 100% sRGB colour support so colour accuracy is good. It uses Huion's latest PenTech 3 so the pen is sensitive, accurate, and has low initial activation force. Drawing experience is fantastic especially since you're now working on a drawing area that's almost the size of an A4 sheet of paper. US $399 is quite reasonable for a pen display at this size. And there are 10 physical shortcut buttons.

Here's something strange. For the same US $399, you can get a much larger pen display with the Huion Kamvas 22. The catch is there are no physical shortcut buttons compared to the Kamvas 16. Having shortcut buttons is certainly nice, but having a much larger display to draw on is even nicer. You can find this on Amazon too.

$400 to $600

At US $549, you can get the Huion Kamvas 22 Plus (review | Amazon) which in my opinion has the one of best displays which has excellent colour accuracy and brightness above 300 nits (that's 50 to 100 nits higher than other Huion pen displays).

$600 to $800

Huion Kamvas 24 (US $799) and Huion Kamvas 24 Plus (US $899) were released in July 2021. The main selling point of these two pen displays is they support 2560 x 1440 resolution, which is significantly more resolution compared to the 1080P resolution used by all the pen displays mentioned above.

Here's a comparison table for the 24-inch pen displays Huion is selling

If you're going to be spend so much money on a pen display, I would recommend you go with the Kamvas 24 Plus which has a laminated display, matte glass, better colours and brightness. That, in my opinion, is worth the extra $100 over the Kamvas 24 (Amazon).

If you need physical shortcut buttons, consider the Kamvas 24 Pro from 2020.

$800 and above

The Huion Kamvas Pro 24 (4K) (review | Amazon) is the best pen display from Huion and the US $1,299 price tag reflects that.

The main selling point is the huge size, 4K resolution and excellent colour accuracy. You're really paying a premium for the 4K here compared to the Kamvas 24 Plus which is $899. Whether it's worth spending the extra $400 is something only you can answer for yourself. All I can say is if you have the budget, I'm sure you'll be very satisfied with the drawing performance and what you see. It's a really beautiful pen display.

In terms of value for money, I would still recommend the Kamvas 24 Plus over the Kamvas 24 Pro (4K) simply because you can save $400.

Both Kamvas 24 Plus and Kamvas 24 Pro (4K) will run 1440P UI scaling. The difference is the UI on the 4K is sharper. If you run 4K native resolution on a 24-inch display, the UI elements will be too small to see, and squinting your eyes won't even help. It is for this two reasons that I recommend the Kamvas 24 Plus over the 4K option. But hey, if you appreciate the sharpness, you can certainly go with 4K since now, for the first time in Huion's history, they have a 24-inch pen display with 4K resolution.

I've reviewed many Huion products over the years. Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments section.
