Painting Masterclass is a 288-page paperback book published by Thames and Hudson that features the techniques used in 100 paintings from some of the greatest artists.
The book starts off with an introduction to art movement, art supplies, techniques, art fundamentals. That's followed by the main content which is organised by genre, namely nudges, figures, landscapes, still life, heads (portraits), fantasy and abstraction. Some of the artists included are Francisco Goya, Georges Seurat, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, J. M. W. Turner, Monet, Leonardo da Vinci, Picasso and more.
There are only two pages devoted to each painting so the explanation of the techniques is more of an introduction rather than step-by-step instructions on how you can follow along exactly. This book is insightful in the sense that if you're a beginner, you can learn about different techniques, and if you're a professional you can use some of the techniques and ideas in your own paintings.
The paintings included are beautiful as they should be since they were painting by masters. I like the variety featured and there's always something new to learn about each painting, after all each painter has their own style.
This is a nice introduction to some master paintings and the techniques used to create them. It may work as a reference book that you can refer to once in a while for ideas.
