Book Review: Kim Jung-Gi 2018 Sketch Collection

Kim Jung-Gi 2018 Sketch Collection - 01

Kim Jung-Gi's new book's out, the 2018 Sketch Collection. I was quite surprised there wasn't any 2017 Sketch Collection last year. Anyway, this artbook is a collection of sketches from the recent years. I saw some dating back to 2014.

Unlike all the other sketchbooks Kim Jung-Gi has released previously, this is the thinnest at 314 pages. Omphalos only has 336 pages but it was really thick because of the 120gsm paper. 2013 Sketch Collection has 536-pages. 2011 Sketch Collection has 686 pages and 2007 has 1000 pages. Do you see any pattern?

Anyway, Kim Jung-Gi's sketches are still awesome. This guy is the equivalent of a modern day Renaissance artist who specialises in manga-style art. His sketches are just fantastic, wildly creative and imaginative. You just can't get tired of looking at his art because of just how detailed and inspiring they are. Oh, there's some nudity in the book as usual.

The downside is, this book, even though it's thinner, is selling at the price of earlier Sketch Collections. Is it worth the money? You decide.

I have the 2007 and 2011 books and I'd be interested in your opinion if the sketching quality is any different as the years go by? Kim is just at such a superhuman level I find myself wondering if there is any room for improvement or growth.

I personally think that KJG's sketches are always at superhuman level, like you do too, but to me is not the quality of the sketches that changed, but the style and the sign of his hands (sorry for the sloppy english hahah). I feel like he's improved in several ways, but he was already good so the result is that he keeps on getting better and better! <3

Ah! I thought I'd got a bootlegged copy when I found a page with 'watercolour print paper' 01:42 in the background, and another page with a Google search in the background 01:49.
Thanks for setting my mind at ease!
