This book is sponsored by Superani, the same publisher that brought us the sketchbooks of Kim Jung Gi. I received a few books from the publisher that I will feature over the next few weeks.
Pyeongjun Park is a professional illustrator from South Korea who has a rather lavish painterly style.
This 120-page large format hardcover artbook features his personal paintings, commissioned works and the art created for trading card games. The paper used is matte and the binding is excellent.
He has contributed many illustrations for the Android TCG Legend of the Cryptids and they are reproduced satisfyingly large in this book. You can tell this guy is a fantastic concept artist just by his character designs, his technique and the storytelling element in his scene. His paintings has a way to make you think, "Woah, what's going on here. Who's that character?" His art is beautiful, detailed and his use of lighting is just masterful. He's real good at capturing the mood and atmosphere.
His personal works are portraits. Less detailed but still masterfully painted. His technique of lighting, hard and soft edges are all clearly on display. His style has this textured oil paint look which reminds me of Old Masters painting, but here it's used to paint modern sci-fi, fantasy and game subjects. It's kinda refreshing to see this technique and interpretation.
It's a great book that's available for sale at https://superanius.com/collections/sketchbooks
