James grew up in Springfield, Vermont, earned an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and now lives in Burlington, Vermont. He has published many books of his comic strips, two volumes of his daily illustrated journals, titled American Elf and, most recently, a children's book: Squirrelly Gray. Don was born in Bountiful, Utah. He studied art and illustration at Utah State University, the Illustration Academy, and most recently as Syracuse University. Cathy Johnson is a painter, author and teacher who grew up in Independence, Missouri, and now lives in a small town near there. She took a fun evening and weekend classes at the Kansas City Art Institute as a young woman, but is otherwise completely self-taught. She has authored eight North Light books, as well as Sierra Club Guide to Sketching in Nature, Sierra Club Guide to Painting in Nature, and writes for Watercolor Artist magazine.
