Day 3's location is at Chew's Jetty. It's one of several jetties in George Town and one of the tourist attractions.
This is the coffee shop just outside of the jetty. The coffee is too sweet. So far, most of the coffee I had are really sweet.
There are a lot of families living at Chew Jetty. What's interesting is, there are also guest houses, temples and even convenience stores among them. Many of the locals are probably used to hordes of tourists visiting. The noise level is pretty loud, but not from sketchers, or at least I hope so.
My lens filter rolled off into the sea somewhere around here. Thank goodness it's not too expensive.
This is the view they were sketching above.
This is the convenience store. I was sketching outside when the owner started opening his store for business.
This is not a good place for sun tan.
Here's the photographer taking photos of the sketchers under the hot sun.
Don's going back to Singapore and he's passing the straw hat he bought to Woon Lam?
Food is generally cheap in Penang. The coconut drink is very cooling.
Afternoon's location is along Beach Street. Historic buildings are everywhere, not just along this street.
I decided to sketch something less complicated. It's easier to remember people's names when you sketch them. I went over and spoke with them. They are sketchers from Johor.
The box below is filled with his paints which he transports using his car.
Ng Woon Lam and Jason Yeoh talking about art.
By this time, I have escaped into the air-conditioned cafe just behind the place where the Johor sketchers were eariler. I wasn't the first one.
I ordered this lemon coffee drink which proved to be a mistake. Coffee is bitter and lemon is sour. It's not a good combination. There's a lot of mix and match food in Penang.
Buz and his scratchboard
They are drawing on postcards for the exchange later at night.
Here we are back at Equator Academy of Art who has kindly provided us the venue for the talks. Ch'ng Kiah Kiean is the first speaker. He's from Penang.
Asnee from Bangkok spoke later. Both of them shared their experience with sketching.
Khoo Cheang Jin getting people to queue up for the postcard exchange.
Sale of Ernest Zacharevic's sketchbook
More food after the talk.
Spotted another piece of street art while walking back to the hotel.
There are a lot of nicely decorated stores everywhere.
This ends day 3. The next day is the free and easy day with the exhibition of the sketchers.
