Book review: The Pepper Project
Paperback: 224 pages
Publisher: Imaginary Frinds Studios
Language: English
Product Code: IFS-Book-Pepper
Release Date: 2008/11
IFS Store Link: Singapore

The Pepper Project - Pepper project is collection of Artgerm's(Stanley lau) most noted and loved Pepper creations, but more then that Pepper represents his greatest piece of art. A piece that has no criteria, no restrictions, no rules and best of all, no deadline.
Pepper was the piece of art that freed Stanley from his old work that left little time for painting. Day by day he drew Pepper, each day he drew 2 paintings of her, each in a different style in order to explore his boundaries until one day he was looking at his studio filled with Pepper paintings like it was his own mini art exhibition. That's when he got the courage to live his old job and establish Imaginary Friends Studios.
This book is not only about Stanleys Pepper but everyone's Pepper, a source of inspiration for every artist, each in his own style and way.

This wonderful book is a paperback inserted into a Translucent red colored plastic case, the case combined with the cover art makes a beautiful combination but I don't like the case very much because the book doesn't slip well into it and that rather annoys me every time I have to fit it back inside, that and its very fragile and bents and breaks easily(mine got bent and broken in the corners from day one)

The first half of this 224 pages art book is filled with Stanleys chosen Pepper art, each in a different style and more beautiful then the one before it. Stanley paints very well and he has no problem keeping his artworks to stay good even with all the different styles he uses.

The second half of the book is for invited entries of various great artists, all with different art styles, from water colors to computer graphics, from sock puppets to hand made figures. All of those artists have one thing in common, and that is the creation of their own versions of Pepper.

To conclude, this book is one amazing collection of artworks that will remain with you long after you finish looking at it. Its an inspiration for every artist looking to break his boundaries, and its well worth the price.
Warmly recommended for all!!

RE: Book review: The Pepper Project
I'd really, REALLY like to purchase IFS' "Star Bundle", which represents a $13.52 discount versus buying each book individually. However, when I looked at the shipping expense to Florida, it was a heart-stopping $55.69 (SpeedPost, 3.2Kg). Can these be obtained via alternative routes?

BTW, a great review. How is the binding? Do you also own Imagine Prime?

Hi and thank you,
The binding is pretty decent for a paperback(I viewed this book a lot and it seems to hold the pages just fine for me).
I own Imagine Prime too but didn't do a review for it because I remember it was already done by someone here, it is a nice book but it didn't sway me like The Pepper Project...it had(in my opinion) more common artworks then the really impressive types, maybe I just prefer Artgerm's art for the rest of the Studio.

As for the books shipping, it is very surprising because I remember when I ordered my books I was very satisfied with the price and when I checked the website right now it suddenly seems very expensive...even if you mistake the Singapore dollars for US dollars(which I don't think was the case Tongue), it is still something like 44 US dollars which is a lot for a shipping price.

As far as I know you can only get the book from the website itself or at Comic-Con conventions from the IF studio stand.
I hope you will find a way to get it for a more reasonable price.

P.s.
I just got the Heavy Metal x IFS Special Issue, and I might review it or show some pics from it in this forum next if it interests you or anybody else.

RE: Book review: The Pepper Project
I might just bite the bullet and pay the $55.69 shipping fee. I'll probably write to them first, though, to make sure that that shipping figure is correct.

Thanks for the feedback regarding the binding.

Please post some pics of the Heavy Metal x IFS special issue, or do a full-fledged review. The art in these productions look outstanding. Thanks!
