Art of Jo chen
![]() Jo Chen is most know as the cover artist of Fables games , Buffy and Runaways (all of which I dont follow lol). She has also published 'other side of the mirror' manga with tokyopop. she published a collection book of mostly commission work so definitly one to get if you're a comic book fan. I bought the deluxe 65$ edition which comes like a box set with a sketch book and 4 gold stock printed postcards. The regular 45$ book "...measures 8.5" x 11.75" and contains approximately 140 pages of high quality reproductions ... bound in a [gold]foil cover. " The interior cover comes with a specialty red stock paper where she signs her name. Then theres 2 pull out poster size pages in a different asian paper style stock from the rest of the gloss paper stock book I followed Jo chen before she became a cover artist. Sadly most of those works was a small section in the back. Not to say the rest of the book isn't just pure juicy =) (just not a buffy nor runaway's fan, and there's plenty of other art in there) The sketch book only comes with the delux edition. Most of it is just BW art from her manga, not actual sketches (which is what I really wanted): Its also perfect bound about 20 or so pages. You can see more of her work or order the book from Her Main Blog Site This book was a 1500 print run with high quality print (from china I think) so its a professional print book with the extra works (gold stock, artist paper stock, fold over cover, poster inserts, ext...) all for 65$ (45$ for the book) all worth it and then some for independent printing. I have no idea how to embed vids here so here's the link to the youtube video. there's other vids of artbooks i've yet to write Decisiveorigin - Art and Webcomics - http://decisiveorigin.com |

RE: Art of Jo chen
I just obtained the $65 edition from Jo (it arrived today). I was a little apprehensive about paying $65 for a softcover, but you can't deny her talent. I'm certainly happy with the purchase and would jump at the chance to buy a hardcover if one is ever produced.
I think my favorite piece is Buffy, Willow, and Xander watching the aborted animated series on TV. Thanks for posting this review. I otherwise would've completely missed it. Incidentally, Jo also signed my main book on the first red page. She has a really large, bold, and elaborate signature in the style of Chinese script (which makes sense, as she is Chinese). However, it isn't numbered. |

I think she signs all the books, maybe just the delux editions? for the price of 65$ I don't mind it since I really wanted the box and the the soft cover is a heavy gold stock and the pages inside is on good heavy stock too. I'm actually not a fan of hard covers, it seems to me there's more paper stock options for soft covers. I do like boxes instead Decisiveorigin - Art and Webcomics - http://decisiveorigin.com |
