Book Review: Groundwork of FLCL
Groundworks of FLCL is very much the same as other Gainx Groundworks. Soft Cover, A4 size paper, 222 pages, contains mostly shrunken key animation frames. Text is mostly in japanese.
  • First 20 pages are quality coloured Illustrations and line-art (that you've probably seen floating around the net).
  • The actual "Groundworks" section spans almost 200 pages, black&white Key animation frames in chronological order of each episode (most of them cleaned up), you'll also find (what I believe are) exposure sheets/charts (paper isn't as 'good' as the first section, but still quality smooth).
  • Then 5 pages of monochrome illustrations at the end.

I Liked it, FLCL fans will enjoy it. But better suited to those that actually want to see the animation frames. If you're just after "Illustrations", this is most likely not worth your money(unless you're mega rich), better look into FLCLISM++(though that's a pretty small book compared to this). Despite the animation frames being thumbnail size, it's clear and detailed. It's a good book.

EDIT: Avaliable at Amazon JP

Dust Jacket

Book cover is a *shiny* silver

Character designs by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (you'll know his illustrations when you see them)

The name of the actual illustrator is in the corner(applies only to "illustrations")

THE MANGA SEGMENT within the anime(interesting stuff).

Remember that weird proportion distortion scene. PRESENTING SHINYA OHIRA!!

RE: Book Review: Groundworks of FLCL
I was just browsing Animebooks and stumbled upon "Groundwork of FLCL" at a $57 (better deal than amazon). When I originally posted up this review It was marked as Not Available. But now It makes no mention of the sort, though they did just revamp their site...Here's the Link: http://www.animebooks.com/grounoffl.html
