Book Review: Les héroines disney

The full name of this book is "Les héroines disney dans les longs métrages d'animation". It has been published by Dreamland editeurs (unfortinatly they don't exist anymore).



This is a big book (207 pages) full of photos, pre-production art, characters' research, and great animations boards. It begins with a preface written by Glen Keane himself. There's a lot of text and Christian Renaut (the french autor) tells us a lot of fun anecdotes. Comments are instructive and full of humor and we learn a lot of things on the development of movies or still about the functioning of the studio over the years.
He analyses the evolution of women in Disney movies from the beggining ( Persephone from the "spring's goddess", a short movie done before Snow-White) until now (the book has been published in 1999, so the last heroin is Jane, from Tarzan). It also includes the "animals" heroins as lady from "Lady and the tramp", Nala from the Lion King , Vixy from "the fox and the hound" or actress from "real" movies like in "Mary Poppins"or "Splash".

I especially love the huge number of animations board into great flip-out pages and the huge amount of anecdotes.

This is a really nice book recommended to animators and disney's fans; everyone in fact !
The book is in french only and is really hard to find. I was lucky enough to find it a few years ago on Amazon. If you're interested, you can also try on ebay.

Wowzers- thats a great looking book. I'll second the last comment about the animation boards- Super great stuff-
A tough one to find Im sure- Ill certainly be keeping my eyes open for it.

The animation boards are great, really and there are a lot in this book ( I think there are 6 double animations-boards). From my point of view they are one of the main interest for this book.

I actually have two copies of this one it's a great book.
If I decide to sell a copy one day, I'll have to remember to post it here, but for now, I'm keeping them.

the only available copy for sale i found is about 995$

this is just immoral too hold 2 books
