Book Review: Lilo and Stitch Collected Stories from the Film's Creators

This particular artbook was a departure for Disney from their other more traditional artbooks. This one is filled with far fewer illustrations, concept art pieces and development art. Where it makes up for lack of art is in the insightful, funny and intimate stories about creating a film that flew in the face of the Disney conventions of the time. Eventually these directors would go on to create 2010's How to Train Your Dragon.

Much of the artwork follows the return to painting the backgrounds in the methods used for classics like Snow White. While it doesn't seem radical, watercolor backgrounds are more time consuming than the typical goache backgrounds and were a big risk for the studio.

I would recommend this book to fans of the film, and to those who really like anecdotes about creating a film. Unfortunately the book is out of print and the prices at places like amazon are in my opinion much more than the book is actually worth.
