Book Review: The World of Disgaea 2
Melody Kitn Wrote:The World of Disgaea 2

This is more a game guide than an art book, but there's still a decent amount of art to look through (though not as much as I like). It's hard cover with a slight gloss to 157 pages of colored pictures and sketches.

The book is separated into four sections: Art Gallery, World Gallery, Character Gallery, and Game Gallery

The Art Gallery contains promotional art used in packaging, postcards, posters, as well as art from the game itself. There are also full-color character pieces and sketch art, the opening game storyboard, and a short spread on weapon illustrations.

World Gallery showcases smaller thumbnails of the various game level art, with sprites of the levels here and there, screenshots, rough sketches, and short descriptors on the stages.

The Character Gallery is a good section with a nice colored, full body pose of main characters, and a few rough sketches dotted inbetween. There are descriptors to go with the characters, and relationship charts, as well as characters sprites of the minor characters and alternate colored avatar images for when minor characters rank up. There's a few pages on random rough sketches, though I wish there could've been more pages to pad it out.

Game Gallery is where the meat of text is and is pretty much the game guide section, complete with screenshots and story spoilers as it roughly outlines each of the game's episodes. This section also has pages dedicated to a listing of game items and a screenshot for all the skills available.

It ends with a developer's interview, a one page anime guide, and product information for other stuff in the Disgaea line.

To wrap it up, it has a good amount of art in the book, but it isn't specifically an art book. It's great for those who may want a sneak peek into more of the story of the game, and insight into the characters it entails, however.

For a game guide there seems to be a nice amount of pages dedicated to art. I love anything with storyboards and character designs. Thanks for the review.
