I have no idea who's David Weldman but the cover really caught my eye. I love the colours and how they overlay on one another, and the textural feel.
Mr. Weidman is an artist who used to work in animation studios back in the 1950s, before he turned to serigraphs (stencil) and silkscreen printing.
Collected in this 216-page hardcover is a collection of his wonderful art. The work he did for animation includes character designs and animation backgrounds. The characters are very cartoon like, looks animated and have a nice style to them. And the animation backgrounds are very beautiful as well, coloured in similar style.
The silk-screen prints featured in this book are gorgeous. The subject, the colour schemes and textures all combine to create vibrant pieces of art. They look really great and I imagine they will look terrific as huge paintings on walls. Some of the designs are looks really complicated, especially those with lots of overlays. It's hard to find anyone who makes art like this anymore.
There's also a short biography and interview on Mr Weidman, which is a nice read into the past.
It's a very beautiful book. Definitely a keeper if you love silk-screen art.
