
Amazon's giving good discounts for external hard drives this month.
Look for the Western Digital My Passport series if you have no brands in mind. Their USB3 models are compatible with USB2. I'm using three of those hard drives which I bought locally at more expensive prices — AARRGGHH! I should have waited.

Do you have any experience of which of these blogs are best for Mac? They seem to have a Mac specific range, but are the regular My Passport ones suitable for Time Machine etc?

I've the standard My Passport and the My Passport for Mac. There's no difference in performance. The one for Mac is pre-formatted for Mac OS (which you can reformat to Windows format if you want). So my recommendation probably to get the cheaper one, or the one with better design in your eyes.

Brilliant. There is quite a difference in price on the Amazon store for the same device, but the 1TB My Passport is 2/3 the price of the Mac specific ones. I'll get that and format it as needed :)
