My copy of The Second in Line by Mattias Adolfsson is here!
I love his pen line watercolour illustrations. This book is yet another wonderful collection of his beautiful artworks, many of which you might have already seen on his blog. Having it in book form feels just much better and different.
The presentation format for this book is different from The First in Line.
There's a cardboard case that opens up to three items inside, a 112-page book plus a 32-page booklet and a poster printed on double side.
These are the two sides to the poster. It's actually the same spaceship but there are some interesting scenario developments that differ from the opposite side.
This is the main book with the stitching exposed.
This is the cover and back cover. The exposed stitching allows for the book to open flat. It's really cool to be able to view the illustrations flat on without the middle curving into the gutter.
Oh, and the book here is of portrait orientation as compared to The First in Line. It allows for the more horizontal pieces to be printed larger, as in the earlier book they were just printed on a single page. So actually there are less artworks featured, but they are bigger.
The main book is a collection of his miscellaneous illustrations. Most of the artworks are from his sketchbooks, but there are also some commissioned pieces.
There are some humorous cartoons mixed with the illustrations.
Delightful whimsical characters are everywhere.
The black booklet features art of interiors.
A very typical scene by Mattias Adolfsson with lots of interesting things to see.
The book cost $44 USD which includes shipping. It's expensive but it's well worth the money.
You can buy it at http://mattiasa.blogspot.se/2013/10/pre-order-second-in-line.html
The First in Line seems to be out of print so definitely get this while stocks last!
Most highly recommended.
It's one of my 2013 favourite artbooks.
