Book Review: 40 Days dans le Désert B

Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (wikipedia.org), also known as pseudonym Moebius, is the artist here. He's a popular French artist whose style ranges from realism to dream-like. In 40 Days dans le Désert B, it's the latter or maybe both, I'm not sure. By the way, the cover you see above is one published under his real name, there's an alternative cover published under Moebius.

In this book, Moebius transports you to a strange desert, inhabited by strange creatures and travellers. It's a place where imagination comes to life through the uniform ink strokes, dots and hatching. The illustrations evokes the same feeling that of a visitor in a foreign place, except in this desert, things are ten times stranger. There are wandering bunny men(?), inanimate objects that seem to breathe life, weird floating formations and many more I can't even begin to describe.

Although the title says 40 days, there are actually 70 illustrations. Each presents a page pausing moment as you try to figure out what you're seeing for the first time.

Moebius has created a highly imaginative world we can all visit, thanks to him.
