Artist Alley at STGCC 2010 this year seems to be much better, in terms of layout and presentation.

The wall-high partitions are gone. The new open concept now enables the public to see the whole alley and the artists with their work at a glance. I think it's a tremendous step up. Even though you lose 2 walls, one is still behind for pinning artwork.

Also, the Artist Alley starts right at one of the hall entrance, which is really great for exposure.

It brings me great pleasure to feature some of the local and regional artists and their work on the blog. If I get any facts or names wrong, please correct me. Everything is from memory - I wished I had an extra pair of hands so that I could shoot photos and write at the same time.

If you want to buy any items from the artists, you should be able to find the contact on their website from the links I provide. The rough estimation for overseas shipping cost is around US$5 (1-2 months) and US$10 (1 week) based on my previous experience.

Here's Singapore artist Koh Hong Teng and writer Dave Chua with their new graphic novel Gone Case. I've already finished reading it and it's really great. Stay tuned for a more detailed review.

Windmill Studio - GONE CASE the graphic novel will be launched at STGCC 2010. Based on the award-winning novel by Dave Chua and beautifully illustrated by Koh Hong Teng, this ambitious graphic novel follows a tumultuous year in the life of a family living in a Singaporean housing estate.

At the right is the Cool Croc cartoon book by Cheah. He's the guy that drew The House of Lim that ran as a daily comic strip on The Straits Times many years back.

Maureen Seng and Wendy Chew are selling their pin-up girls sketchbooks and clips. The drawings are vector and have an animation style to them.

Pin-up Gals - Maureen - A 3D animator with zero published books but that doesn't stop her from continuing to illustrate cute/sexy pin-ups in her free time.
Wendy - An illustrator who love vintage stuff. Pin-up girls and anything cute. Her first self-published book is "Art of Wendy C: Vitamin C"

Peregrin Studios is a new studio founded by 11 artists. They are into concept art and illustrations. Their work look promising and I hope they do well. I've a copy of their art book The Art of Peregrin Studios which I'll review later.

Peregin Studios started as an impromptu gathering of artists and gradually grew into priding itself as a provider of conceptual art and illustration services specialising in animation, films and video games.

This is Asuka (deviantart | blog) from Singapore. She creates these beautiful and exquisite home set miniatures that she sells online.

Asuka Sakumo likes to write stories and draws them in sweet-yet-sometimes-scary illustrations. Creating minature toys is another obsession of hers.

They look so good that I feel like putting them into my mouth.

Otto Bjornik (website | blog) shares the booth beside her. He's into pen and ink illustration. His work is very good and you should check out his blog.

Otto Bjornik creates illustrations that persist in capturing imprints of lost dreams and quieted fantasies, with his whimsical work in forthright pen and ink.

This is Ben from Xenomorph. They are into figure kit building and painting services. I found out that they have a shop and Bras Basah and I'm very excited at checking out.

This is sculpted by another artist Troy McDevitt.

These amazing models are actually created by Mufizal (who wasn't there at the booth) using Super Sculpey clay. They are really detailed.

They have been in the business for making these models for a few years now. Clients include animation studios or anyone who needs to see their characters in solid form. The craftsmanship is excellent.

Mufizal, a born-artist, discovered a love for collectibles-sculpting 5 years back. Sculpting mainly for collectors, he dreams of sculpting for big toy-companies with his sculptures mass-produced.
A full-time professional-art-director (Ubisoft Singapore), he dedicates nights to breathing life to iconic comic characters. Through SGTCC, he hopes to expose this exquisite art to masses in Asia!

Kelvin Chan, ROCKETRAYGUN, is a professional-illustrator in the field of comics, concept design and storyboards for games, films and advertising. An art director of information graphics for news media, he has won regional and local awards for his graphics. He also mentors new talent under the Noise Singapore Apprentice Programme.

C.B. Cebulski checking out the work of Celine Choo (deviantart.com). Her work reminds me of the concept art you see in Disney art books.

Nor Azhar is a caricaturist from cartoon.sg. Cartoon.sg is a community of artists who specializes in caricatures and portraits.

They are available for commissioned work and are often invited to events to draw caricatures. They also offer drawing lessons in Singapore.

Lu Peng, creator of Qoobee, talking to a fan.

Lu Peng, comic/animation artist, has been active in the local media-industry since graduating from Temasek Polytechnic (2001). His creation, Qoobee & Friends has attracted more than 2000 fans since launching their official facebook page. Lu Peng is expanding his characters into fields like children-education materials, apparels and toys.

The character is very cute.

That's actually a sticker which you can paste on top of any card.

Kian is a concept artist and illustrator. This is his first time here at SGTCC.

Abdul Wahid from Wireheadz Artworks.

Wireheadz Artworks presents to you a collection of original artworks done by solo artist Abdul Wahid. The young and the young at heart will have something to look at or maybe have a souvenir home like personally made sketchbooks, original art and printed cards.

He draws in red pencils because he says the blue pencil lines always disappears.

He has several sketchbooks to sell and he transports them with his large suitcase behind.

Wee See Heng from Egg Manga Studio. They have manga drawing lessons. Their student work are in the sketchbook he's holding, selling at the comic con.

Drewscape is a freelance illustrator, storyboard and comic artist. His work is also in Liquid City 2. Here, he's selling some of his homemade comics at the Liquid City booth. Check out his blog for some examples.

These square sized comic books are from Chin Yew. They are pretty good. Unfortunately, I did not get to meet him. The books are located at the Liquid City booth as well.

This is Liu Xiaofen who draws The Bitter Stickgirl. She asked me to promote her Unanswered cartoon book which is a collection of some of her cartoons on the blog. For every book sold, some money will be donated to Operation Smile Singapore. Not sure if the book ships overseas but you can contact her at stickg @ gmail . com

It's really cool to be able to see stickgirl in person. I like her cartoons. My only impression of her was actually from hutdugaikarsui.blogspot.com, a blog from Daniel Wang (above) who likes to cosplay as a stormtrooper.

I was at the Star Wars booth asking if Daniel was there and a lady said there was no such person. And here I am looking at the photo above from his blog post posing with stickgal (notice the same shirt). I don't think I pronounced his name wrongly. AAAAAHHHHhhhhhhh!!!

Shawn Yap holding a copy of John Doe, a graphic novel he worked on with Gabriel Chua and Xander Lee. The graphic novel is actually the result of a contest held by local comics publisher Chuang Yi Publishing. I'll be reviewing the book in a separate post.

Woodee x Chibimeli comprises of a female duo specializing in Ball-Jointed-Dolls photography and traditional hand drawn pencil art. Making an appearance at SGTCC for the first time, the booth features beautiful lifelike photo prints of dolls and cutesy chibi-fanart from the popular series "Axis Powers Hetalia".

They would create the dolls and photograph them. They also do customisation and import.

Mazlan Skope Ahmad from Artkore (blog) is a graffiti artist. He does commissioned and customized artworks, such as the shoe he's painting above (with acrylic).

Artkore - As one of the reputable pioneers of graffiti art in Singapore, SKOPE has been an integral figure in bringing graffiti art to the mainstream audience in Singapore. SKOPE is also accredited with creating awareness locally. Recently, SKOPE was invited in a mural exhibition to Joan Miro Museum in Barcelona Spain.

Eldred is an illustrator, designer and 3D modeller.

Eldred works professionally in the field of computer animation and visual effects and had worked with several international companies. Exposure to various cultures and art styles led to the creation of a hybrid style that he can call his own, often created in traditional mediums, then enhanced in digital.

His linework is very fine and most of his artwork is drawn traditionally. Unfortunately, he has no website (on his card) but you can reach him at thedredworks @ gmail . com

The Saltnpaper booth promotes the Live 3D printing. That's something like holographic prints where you get the illusion of 3D through slightly tilting the picture left and right. Their company is PT INDOJAYA MULTITAMA.

Saltnpaper is know for its paper toys creation with the growing number of audience, they are expanding creation to other media such as wood, resin and plush. Saltnpaper also currently in the process of transforming various paper toys into a non conventional media such as concrete, clay and ceramic.

Although you can't see it in this flat photo, this illustration is actually printed with holographic. The 3D effect is really nice.

They also have their own line of models that can be ordered for customisation.

Caramelaw is a mad motion graphic designer by day and a candyland super hero by night. She's done work for MTV Asia, Sony International, DC Comics and many others. Caramelaw specializes in candy art and character design. She also customises vinyl toys and fashion dolls.

Sean Lee from Malaysia is into T-shirt designs, prints and other stuff. The T-shirt he's holding is titled "Culture Shock".

Shabowl Brothers is based in Malaysia - a country which is filled with unique culture. The concepts of our artworks are the stories and experience around us. The style that we mostly do is mixture of oriental and modern design together.

Hillary Yeo is an animator and part time lecturer at Lasalle College of the Arts. He's promoting his 18-minute animation Godaizer (trailer) here at the comic con. It took him 3 years with the help of 20 friends and professionals including concept artist Raytoh to create this short film. The quality is pretty high. The artistic style is a bit painterly, unlike the usual Pixar style. It's good stuff like this that gives hope to the animation scene in Singapore.
