Book Review: AmazingSingapore by Olga Terekhova

AmazingSingapore by Olga Terekhova - 01

Olga Terekhova is a Russian-born photographer who moved to Singapore in 2013. She started as a bird photographer before expanding into street photography. AmazingSingapore is her first book.

This book features a mixture of street and nature photography. To be able to capture a compelling scene is not easy. And since I'm from Singapore and happen to like drawing on location, I pay close attention to interesting things and scenes. There are some photos in this book that I would consider pleasing and others that don't appeal to me because it is not something I've not see before. Perhaps it is because I'm familiar with the subject that I fail to see the beauty. A photographer friend once told me that that's the grass-is-greener-on-the-other-side syndrome.

The photos on flora and fauna are beautiful though. I love the colours of nature, the close up macro shots, the birds, reptiles and other animals that can be found in out urban landscape.

The last few pages that feature carefully composed scenes that play with geometry and patterns are quite fun to look at too.

I was told that only 1,000 copies of this book was published. It's now being sold at major bookstores in Singapore. Go check out Kinokuniya's shelves.

The ISBN for this book is 9789810999483
